Week One - New Job
Sooooo ..... this is it, the first week in a new job as the Managing Director of Match.com UK. I thought I'd start a blog to put myself out there (after all that's what online dating is all about!) and to see if people wanted to comment on what we are trying to achieve here at Match.com.
I've joined the company from lastminute.com (a business I loved) where I have spent the last 6 and a bit years in a number of senior roles - most recently as the Managing Director of Travelocity Business. The move was driven by a desire to get more involved in the next wave of the internet (sometimes called "Web 2.0") which means a move away from e-commerce and a move towards 'peer-to-peer’ collaboration. And come on, who wouldn't get excited about a business that is trying to "make love happen".
It’s been a brilliant first week (no-one tried to flush my head down the toilet ..... maybe that's week two) trying to get my head around what has made this business a success to date and what will take it to the next level. The simple answer (sorry if clichéd but its true) is the people. The team here is evangelical and passionate about the power of the web to connect people. Everyone here is working to raise the profile of online dating, improve the website and focus on the levels of service both for our customers and partners. which I believe will make the internet (and more specifically Match.com) THE PLACE for people looking for romance, fun and yes .... love.

It is good to see a recognised and successful brand bringing some transparency to what can some times be a murky and convoluted world, plus, someone who is also passionate about his brand and love can only be a good thing. A regular corporate cupid firing shots against convention indeed. It will be interesting where you will take an already well recognized brand and we will wait with baited breath, what ever that means, but I'm sure you will take it to new levels of success. What was it Wiitgenstein or David Lee Roth said, I always get the two mixed up, "Aint love grand when you finally hit it!"
Best of luck in your new role and don’t let them scuff your new shoes!

Thanks Yorkie. Wittgenstein eh? There's a man that I believed would have benefited greatly from the service we provide. Greatest Analytical Philosopher of all time?? Arguably yes. But not sure he managed his personal life with such inventiveness (See Ray Monk - 'Wittgenstein').
Dave Lee Roth, well there's another story .... rock's 'tightest' frontman (see Motley Cue - 'The Dirt') certainly had/has no problem on the 'dating' front but to my knowledge has made no contribution lasting to Analytic Philosophy (although 'Crazy from The Heat' makes an interesting foray into the field of Metaphysics :-)
